William the Conqueror Trail
Starts 9pm, Thursdays and Saturdays
Some things that are invisible in broad daylight come out at night, the time for improbable meetings. Witnesses to the history of the city, both anonymous and famous, will be keen to meet you and take you to the heart of the mystery that reigns in the city at this hour. The figure of William the Conqueror looms large over the tour, so the doors to his last place of residence, the Men’s Abbey, will be open to us.
Queen Matilda Trail
Wednesdays and Fridays, starts 9pm
The tour starts at the Ladies’ Abbey in the ideal atmosphere of the early evening. During your voyage, you’ll be shown around by the mischievous guardian’s son, who will reveal a few of the abbey’s most inaccessible places to you. You will also come across some more illustrious characters who have made their mark on the duchy’s history, such as Charlotte Corday reading Corneille. Then it will be time to set off again on your journey through time and its secrets, towards other discoveries in the heart of the ducal city.
Dramatised Walk at the Castle : Fief of the Conqueror
Starts 5.00pm Thursdays and Saturdays
Caen castle, one of the largest fortified enclosures in Europe, is both the setting and the main character of this summer play. Great events from the ducal castle’s history are portrayed in an imaginative piece of theatre at a late afternoon performance to delight the whole family.
Medieval Dinner at the Castle
Starts 7.30,Thursdays 21 July, 4 and 18 August at 7.30 pm
Continuing on from your dramatised walk, the Tourist Office and Café Mancel invite you to a medieval dinner in a festive atmosphere, with performances from a troupe of artists (musicians, jugglers, magicians…).
